Baby Sarah's first Christmas

The holiday rush is finally over. We somehow managed to find meaningful gifts for the whole family between feedings and diaper changes. Shopping with an infant in a store filled with hundreds of people was a bit of a challenge, but Sarah behaved wonderfully most of the time. The light buzzing sound of people walking, talking, and Christmas music playing put her to sleep in a matter of seconds, leaving us with an opportunity to look for presents. On Christmas Eve we celebrated at my parents according to the Hungarian tradition. Gift exchange was a lot of fun. My parents went overboard on their spending. We got fantastic gifts, like a toaster oven, 3 awesome skillets, a Maple Leafs calendar for Peter, diapers, wipes, a cute little hair brush set for Sarah, gift certificates to my favourite restaurant and to Tim Horton's etc, etc...
I think my parents were happy with their gifts too. I know dad sure was. He got a 10 foot long fishing rod, with a professional fishing knife. Tyson and Richie got their usual bacon strips wrapped in fancy paper. Sarah slept through most of it. She looked really cute in her new Christmas outfit.
The next morning we went over to Pete's parents. We even managed to find a Tim Horton's that was open on Christmas Day, so everyone could have their daily double double. We had a nice breakfast made by Rowena and Peter, then we started opening gifts. Sarah was sitting on my lap, when all of a sudden, I felt a warm and wet sensation. She had peed so much that her diaper couldn't hold it, so it ended up on my jeans. Of course, from that point on I became the center of all the jokes. I changed my pants, then we changed Sarah. She made such a huge mess, that we had to garbage her undershirt. We resumed to opening gifts shortly after. The last one to be opened was Richard's new 32" flat panel TV. It was quite the surprise.
Then in the afternoon we had a big, delicious turkey dinner with the extended family.
And now here we are preparing to wave goodbye to 2007. Where has the year gone?

We are 6 weeks old

Sarah, you are growing so fast. The other day I put you down for a nap, when you woke up a few hours later, I could have sworn you looked bigger. You are starting to realize that you have hands too. There's a blue/yellow ball that hangs above you in your little chair, you just love hitting it with your tiny fist. You concentrate on it for a while, then you take swing. You miss it the first few times, then when you finally hit it, it swings back and forth. You smile in satisfaction and keep whacking at it. You have many toys, but that little ball is the first one you can actually play with and have fun with. I can't wait for you to discover your stuffed animals, water toys, rattle watches, etc. I love watching you play. You have so much fun and I love seeing you smile.
You're starting to sleep more at night. The last 2 nights you slept for 6 hours straight. I needed that little break, I was getting exhausted. We moved you to your crib a few days ago, because your cradle was becoming too small for you. You move around a lot now, you're almost able to roll over on your stomach. Your favourite body parts are your legs. You just love kicking at the air when you're laying on your back. You're going to have strong legs if you keep that up. You've always been a kicker though, even in my belly.
I applied for a passport for you the other day. We are planning our first family trip in April. You'll be about 6 months then. We're going to go somewhere in the Caribbean. I can't wait to take this trip with you. The hot weather will be a surprise for you, it's something you've never experienced. You'll get to crawl around in just a diaper in the sand, go for a swim in your little baby float and enjoy the sun. We'll have a blast!

Santa Claus is coming to town...

We are 5 weeks old today. It seems a lot longer than that. It's like it was 5 years ago that we came home from the hospital. Sarah has grown so much already. She's not that tiny little doll anymore, she can hold her up now, she knows my face and voice, she can even stand on her little feet when I hold her under her arms. She's very strong for her age. She eats like a champion and poops like a champion. Her feedings are still about every 3 hours, but she's up to 4 oz. now. She's already started to outgrow some of her outfits. She has some clothes that she never actually fit into, she was too big for them when she was born. I have a pile of them that we'll have to store for the next time around. Santa Claus visited our house last week. He left 2 big bags of goodies for Peter and me, and a chocolate Santa for Sarah in her little shoes. It was so adorable. She's too young for chocolate now, but Mom and Dad will help her out.
It's my birthday today. Yesterday we celebrated at Crabby Joe's with Peter, Sarah, my parents, my brother, Rodney, Jackie, Glenn and John. It was Sarah's first time in a bar. Not bad for a 5-week-old. She behaved wonderfully, she slept the whole time.
Last Saturday we attended the company Christmas Party with Drew, Ang, Jackie and Glenn. It was pretty good. The food was amazing as always, plus Peter and myself won a door prize as did Drew and Jackie. We weren't crazy about the music so we left at around 11 pm. Peter's parents watched Sarah for us.
Peter's been working long days as my maternity pay still hasn't kicked in. He's always tired, but still helps out with Sarah. He does some nightly feedings so I can get some sleep. He's fantastic. I wouldn't be able to keep up without him.
Thanks sweetie!
