Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

It's the 12th of October and believe it or not, Peter and I drove home in a snow storm today. Everything is covered in white. I hope it's only a preview of what's to come, we're not ready for winter yet. We've been waiting for the leaves to fall so we could pick them up all at once, but now they're covered with the wet stuff. My poor flowers are still in bloom under the snow.I can't imagine how little kids are going to get around Halloween night if this keeps up.

Camping with Chelsea, David, and Cody

What a week. I've been off work for 10 days now. It's been really quite and relaxing. Peter and I've slept in every day till at least 10. Last Friday, we took Dwayne and Kelly's kids camping. They had a blast. Peter taught Cody, the oldest boy (11), how to chop wood and how to start a fire. David (8) was a little disappointed he didn't get to try it, but he's too young to safely handle an axe. He did get to make hot dogs and roast his own marshmallows though. He did and excellent job. I can't say the same about Chelsea (4), she burned everything to a crisp. But that was ok, she needed to practice. I cooked up supper for her so she could eat with her big brothers and be all proud.
They each got a can of Pepsi after supper which was a big treat because normally they're not allowed to have pop, due to it's enormous sugar content. Later they played hide and seek, then some sort of warrior game that I couldn't figure out. I guess, you have to be a kid to understand.
It was an unbelievably cold night. The mercury dropped to 1 degree, by the morning, everything was covered in frost, including our tent. I wondered how Peter was able to talk me into going camping in October (in Canada). I longed for my huge, king size, double pillow top mattress just 15 minutes away, as I laid shivering in the freezing cold tent. I couldn't wait for the morning and for the sun to come up. Cody must have felt the same way, as he was the first one up. We drove over to a convenience store for milk for the kids and to Tim Horton's for a couple of double doubles. By the time we got back to our site the rest of the group was up. We had a healthy breakfast of cereal, left over hot dogs and some donuts.
We stayed for another few hours, till the sun came up and melted the frost off the tent so we could pack it up. The drive home was insane. The car was packed completely full. The kids had to sit on blankets with sleeping bags under their feet and backpacks on their laps. I had a huge garbage bag full of stuff on my lap. Thankfully, it was a short drive. Overall, the kids had an awesome time camping with us and their parents finally got some much needed peace and quite time.
