Baby shower

It was a beautiful, sunny day last Saturday, so Mom and I went garage saling in the morning. I made a couple of great deals. One was a brand new, 6 quart slow cooker for Peter, that I got for only $15, the other was a little red wagon, that we'll use next summer to haul the baby around. It's in very good condition, it has great big tires that make for a smooth ride. New ones sell for about $200, I managed to talk the lady down to $25. Needless to say, that was a great start to the day, and it only got better when I arrived home. There was a party going on at our house. A "Jack and Jill Baby Shower". Kelly and Dwayne had organized it all. There were about 20 to 25 people here, including our parents, friends, co-workers, and more family members. There was lots of food, pretty decorations, and a mountain of gifts. The guys spent the majority of the day sitting outside on the deck, while us, the girls played "baby shower" games inside. Kelly had great prizes for the winners, like Tim Horton's, Zehrs, and Giant Tiger gift certificates. After the games it was time for me to open presents. We got tons of beautiful baby girl clothes, hand-made blankets, hooded towels, a 3-way receiver, diapers, wipes, baby cleansers, a high chair, a car seat, etc, etc, etc. Peter and I were excited to receive so many items we still needed. Later on a huge cake appeared out of nowhere, that said "Congratulations Peter and Viktoria", and it had a little baby on it as well. It was adorable. And tasty! I spent the remainder of the day sitting on the deck, chatting with our guests, and enjoying the sun. What a great day! Thank you so much Kelly and Dwayne!

Wasaga Beach

Last week it was extremely hot, so we decided to go to the beach Thursday. My dad was on holidays, my brother took the day off, so along with Mom and Peter, we all headed up to Wasaga Beach early in the morning. It was about a 2.5 hour drive. When we got there, there were quite a few people at the beach already, but we still managed to find a decent parking spot. I suspected that Mom had over packed the van, but I didn't realize just how much, until we had to carry the stuff down to the beach. I swear, she must have packed up half the fridge. Peter, being an experienced beach-goer, had suggested that we bring a patio umbrella. Thank God we did! The sun was scorching. The sand was so hot we could barely walk on it. As soon as we had our things set up, we all headed for the water. It was perfect. Not too cold, not too warm. Of course, being pregnant, I was only able to go in the water up to my knees. Still, it was refreshing. After our first dip, we had a little breakfast. Mom had brought so much food, it was like dining at a small restaurant. We had the choice between a number of meals, 5 to 6 different vegetables, a whack of fruits, yogurts, chips and other snacks. It was insane. We tried to eat as much of it as we could so we'd have less to take home. After suggesting the use of sunblock over and over, my brother finally put a little dab on his face and shoulders. I told him to use more or he'd be hurting later, but what do I know, I'm just a big sister. Later the day, Dad, Peter and myself stopped in at the Banana Club for a drink. I was not impressed with the place. It was too expensive, the music was too loud, and our waitress didn't know if she was coming or going. We had a couple of drinks, then went back to the beach. We watched a little boy (about 1-year-old) go for a swim with his dad in his inflatable toy car, he was adorable. We wondered if our baby would be old enough to bring to the beach by that time next year. She will be about 10 months old. With the help of swim-diapers, we might be able to do it. I spent the rest of the day relaxing under the huge umbrella, watching the rest of my group enjoy the water. At about 5 we packed up and left. On the way home, my brother started complaining about sunburn. By the next morning he looked like a lobster, with blisters on his face from the burn. He was so sore, he walked with his arms and legs kept away from his body. He never made it to work, he ended up calling in sick that day. For a second, I though, well, next time he'll listen. Then I realized, nah, he probably won't, he'll just burn again. Other than that incident, we had a great time at the beach.
