34 weeks

Time sure flies. It seems like just yesterday that we found out we were expecting and here we are in the home-stretch. I stopped working shortly after the baby shower because of the hot weather. I get tired a lot so I take a couple of naps each day as the baby takes more and more out of me. According to the doctor, she now weighs between 4 and 5 pounds. She's very active, some of her kicks are almost painful. I've gained a total of 22 pounds, which is quite a load to carry around. I try to keep myself busy by working on the nursery. Pete and I picked up a really nice crib for her a few months ago. It has an adjustable sleep surface that can be moved up or down and a drop-down side railing for easy access.
I found a great changing table at a garage sale, with lots of storage space underneath it for only $25. I also picked up a little dresser for $10, that I painted white. It has 6 drawers and rounded edges, it fits perfectly in a little girl's bedroom. I also bought some fabric and made a curtain for her windows. Yes, unbelievable it may sound, I managed to make something with the use of a needle and some thread. I think it turned out nice. The fabric has teddy bears on it. I had picked it out before we found out we were having a girl. Some bears have red and some have blue neck ties on, this way it suites both a girl's and a boy's room.
We finished childbirth school last week. Our last class was a tour of the hospital. This way we know where to go, what to expect when the time comes. I have to say, I was very impressed with the whole facility. Security is top priority, our teacher had to call the childbirth unit to be allowed inside. Only 2 people at a time are allowed to visit each patient and only at certain times. There won't be any strangers walking around us. The rooms were also very private and high tech. Peter and I will have our own room, that will function as both the labor room and birthing room. This way I won't be moved at all. Each one has a reclining chair/bed for the dads to sleep on if labor takes too long. Each room has a huge bathroom (larger than ours at home) with a shower and a whirlpool tub to ease mom's labor pains. There's an area set up with all kinds of instruments for the baby when she's born, so she will be kept in our room all the time, unless there's a serious medical issue. I was very very impressed!
